Once upon a time there was a famous sculptor who worked at two similar statues at the same time, one in public and the other in the secret.

For the latter he reached into his own genius, but for the former he listened to every advice and would make every little adjustment and touch up that his critics suggested.

When both the statues were finished, he exhibited them in public, side by side. One statue was criticized while the other was extolled endlessly.

"Fellow countrymen" said the sculptor,

"the statue that you criticize is your work, and the one you admire so much is mine."

There was a very cautious man
who never laughed and never cried.
He never won and he never lost.
He played it safe and never tried.
He went to work and earned his bread.
He watched TV and he went to bed.
He felt secure and he felt no pain.
He took no risk and he made no gain.

When one day he passed away,
his insurance was denied.

For since he never really lived,
they claimed, he never died!

Once a king was on a voyage in his ship when a great storm arose. One of his slaves who had never been at sea, began to cry out of fear. Nobody could silence him and he continued to cry louder and louder.

In anger the king asked;
"Is there no one in this ship who can silence this coward?"
All the king's advisors could not utter a word.

Finally a wise man who happened to be a passenger said,
"I think I can silence him provided you give me full permission to do as I please with him."

Anxious to know what this wise man could do, the king said,
"go ahead, you have my permission."

The wise man then called a few of the king's soldiers and ordered them to throw the slave into the sea. Once thrown into the water the poor slave screamed out with fear and thrashed out wildly with his legs and arms trying to swim.

But within seconds, the wise man ordered the soldiers to haul him up on board again.

Back on deck, the slave lay exhausted and frightened, but was absolutely silent.

The king was amazed by the sudden change in the slave, and asked for an explaination.

The wiseman said,

" WE NEVER REALIZE HOW WELL OFF WE ARE IN ANY SITUATION UNTIL WE FALL INTO A WORSE ONE"
